About Maxie Absell
A BIT ABOUT THE ARTIST
Whether casting Disney characters out of Plaster of Paris under the apple tree with my father back in my grandmother Kitty's garden at the age of five, or colouring away happily with my mother and younger sister on a wet afternoon at eight, or having my first proper painting lesson at my Cornish artist grandmother Gwen's easel at the the age of ten, art always meant family warmth and creativity to me as a child and it has continued to prove a life source of enjoyment to me.
However, it was after raising my three children and pursuing careers in both drama teaching and acting that I was finally able to resume my passion for art.
After competing an art foundation course I went on to study painting on the Fine Art Degree Course at Chichester University and further watercolour study has followed since then. I live in North Cornwall where the rugged and timeless landscapes and ever changing seas and skies provide a constant source of inspiration.
Watercolour to me is both a challenge and a charming medium. There is true beauty in the light that shines through a watercolour painting that is quite unlike any other medium. The constant tension between control and accident means watercolour is always exiting to work with and the results are often wonderfully surprising.
I hope you enjoy looking at my art and please do feel free to order prints, cards or other items directly from my website here.
